Possibly my all time favorite compilation. Every band on here is killer. Back when Toxic Ranch Records was still Toxic Shock, this CD has the early Toxic Shock releases. First, the 7" 4-song compilation "Noise From Nowhere". It has the bands Kent State (who are great but have only one other recorded song that's on one of the Rodney on the Roq compilations), Modern Industry, Moslem Birth (who later became Peace Corpse) and Manson Youth. All are great. It's noticeable Moslem Birth are an early Peace Corpse, but more raw. "Horror Snores" remains my favorite song from them. Manson Youth were very underrated and have pretty much no credit to this day. Dr. Strange Records released their 2 EP's in early 90's (they were recorded early 80's) but those are out of print and they won't reissue them for some reason. Something I Learned Today posted both EP's and you can get them here.
The other bands on here are Peace Corpse, Red Tide and Massacre Guys. It has Peace Corpse's Quincy's Lament EP, Red Tide's Kelp and Salal EP, and Massacre Guys' Behind the 8 Ball EP. Classic compilation that seems very under appreciated. Worth a click or two.

Fang- Landshark/Where The Wild Things Are
Fang from Berkeley CA is definitely a band I really respect. They had basically the same principle as Flipper; to not play generic hardcore. Maybe not as slow as Flipper but nothing past a mid-tempo beat. They made some really great songs. The thing that really pisses me off though is that Mudhoney covered "The Money Will Roll Right In". I mean, I like Mudhoney but they got a lot of credit for WRITING the song. Nirvana also covered the same song so most Nirvana fans think that they covered it from Mudhoney. Which is pure bullshit, especially since on the linear notes of one of Mudhoney's albums (don't remember which one, but whatever one contained "The Money Will Roll Right In") they gave credit to Fang. I guess all those "fans" missed that one. Also, completely unrelated to what I was just talking about, the singer from Fang killed his girlfriend (or possibly his wife, I don't recall) and is now out of prison, playing shows with Fang again. Rarely of course.
In their lifespan, Fang released 4 LPs. The first 2, Landshark and Where The Wild Things Are, along with tracks from various compilations are on this CD. I've still yet to hear the other albums but I'll get around to it eventually.

Circle One- Are You Afraid?
Definitely one of the more odd bands out of the L.A. hardcore scene. Circle One started off as generic hardcore (see later tracks on this post) but soon went a lot more different, but not any less awesome. The singer, John Macias, was a giant, scary, crazy buff dude. He was one of the first people that started up "the family", a big gang that was leaded by John Macias. As if he himself wasn't scary enough. Macias ended up becoming a Christian and it was very noticeable in the lyrics on the Patterns Of Force LP.
Sometime in 1991, Macias died very...memorably so to speak. Apparently because of his mental problems, he kind of lost it. He threw a security guard off of a bridge, ran into a McDonalds where he punched an old lady in the face and continuously tried to pull people out of moving cars until the cops surrounded him. He charged at them yelling, "God is going to watch you die, pigs!", and they fired. It took 8 bullets to take him down. Now is that a way to go out or what?
Now about the CD. It's great! Truly GREAT hardcore, especially Patterns Of Force, that's all I have to say about it. Also a big thanks to "Bob Bud-Crunch" Frank for the Circle One file and the last 11 tracks that I got fucked out of hearing the first time I got this CD.

Agnostic Front- Cause For Alarm/Victim in Pain
One of the legendary hardcore bands responsible for putting NYHC on the map. These guys were violent, pissed off, loud, skinhead and proud. Their first album, Victim in Pain is an awesome, angry, emotion-filled (not in a gay way) raw piece of hardcore goodness. You must hear it and you must love it. Truly a classic in every sense of the term. Catchy, fast as I fucked your mother, short songs with strong anti-racism lyrics. As no surprise, Agnostic Front crossed over to metal during the fall of the hardcore scene and eventually began to suck extreme balls until they were another lame band trying to act tough and hard.
This has the Victim in Pain and Cause For Alarm LPs. Cause For Alarm was their second album and first attempt at metal/thrash. Though it isn't bad, it ain't all that great either. The songs are pretty damn good (even with the slowed down metal parts and over-palm muting) but the singing is ATROCIOUS! Roger Miret's once angry, hate induced yells sound nothing more than some guy bitching at you. It makes the album really irritating to sit through. He literally sounds like he's going to cry and not in an emotional way, more like a little bitch way. Not to mention the opening to the redone "Your Mistake". It's hilarious when he "yells", "It's your mistake!". I just can't take it all that seriously. If you're not already a fan of thrash then just skip to Victim in Pain because I guarantee you it's not going to make you a fan.

Cause For Alarm-
1. The Eliminator
2. Existence of Hate
3. Time Will Come
4. Growing Concern
5. Your Mistake
6. Out For Blood
7. Toxic Shock
8. Bomber Zee

19. Society Sucker

Reagan Youth- A Collection of Pop Classics
One of the more different, "rock" oriented hardcore bands. They were very good, and like I mentioned in the previous sentence, "different". I don't know of any history about them other than that they released one 12" in their short life span and that the singer, Dave Insurgent, committed suicide sometime in the 90's. They had an unreleased LP or something but it wasn't released until after they broke up, or were they still together...? I forget. This discography CD has both the Volume 1 and Volume 2 LP's. Volume 1 has the 12" and a couple of extra songs. Volume 2 has the unreleased LP.
In strictly my own opinion, I can't stand the second LP. The first one has catchy rock 'n roll esque punk tunes, the second LP basically drags on for what seems like a lifetime. When I first bought this, I fell asleep in the middle of it (2nd LP) 2 times in row! Sure, "It's A Beautiful Day" and "Jesus Was A Communist" are awesome stick-in-your-head songs, but the rest bore me to tears. Even saying this, the first LP (and the first 2 songs on the 2nd LP) are worth the download. Now click on the link and lynch some new wavers! There aren't many of those nowadays, so um, lynch some emos!
Volume 1-
1. Reagan Youth
2. New Aryans
3. (Are You) Happy?
4. No Class
5. I Hate Hate
6. Degenerated
7. Go Nowhere
8. U.S.A.
9. Anytown
10. In Dog We Trust
Volume 2-
11. It's A Beautiful Day
12. Jesus Was A Communist
13. Urban Savages
14. What Will the Neighbors Think?
15. Get the Ruler Out
16. Brave New World

7 Seconds- Walk Together, Rock Together
Awesome awesome awesome! 7 Seconds were one of the very first hardcore bands I ever got into. They were also the very FIRST show I ever went to and they still remain the only band I like that constantly use the whole "Whoooooaaaaaa" sing-a-long chorus thing. This was the very first release I heard from them and is still one of my favorites. Since I was so new to hardcore, I was excited and extremely impressed by the ferocious speed and thrashing anger that came out of it when I first heard it. Now remember I was very new to hardcore and of course now I can't find 7 Seconds all that hard compared to other classic bands from the same period. But now they're up there with the best, fast, melodic type of hardcore bands.
Though it has the worst album title in music history, this is a really strong release. The only songs that drag on for me is the famous "99 Red Ballons" and "Strength". Every other song is GREAT. This version has live tracks and extra songs (at least I think they're extra). Worth your time, guaranteed.
Walk Together, Rock Together-
1. Regress No Way
2. We're Gonna Fight
3. In Your Face
4. Spread
5. 99 Red Balloons
6. Remains to Be Seen
7. Walk Together, Rock Together
8. How Do You Think You'd Feel?
9. Strength
Fender's Ballroom June, 1985-
10. Still Believe
11. Out of Touch
12. Drug Control
13. Bottomless Pit
14. This is the Angry Pt. 2/New Wind/We're Gonna Fight

That's Right I'm Half Assin' It!
I was so hyped up on this record I said "the hell with posting my own shit!". I am not a fan of plagiarism or taking other people's credit so I URGE you to go here. Why you may ask? Oh do I thank God I accidentally GOOGLED one of the rarest pieces of music I've been trying to find, for what seems like forever. I looked everywhere online trying to find it, with absolutely no luck. I found the double LP version but was completely broke and never got a chance to go back and get it, if it was doubtably still there. I had finally found one on ebay, when minutes later, completely unintentional, I stumbled upon a blog that had the very CD/LP I was going to, at the moment spend my money on (I wouldn't have minded spending it if I had not needed the money for something else, also on ebay). I personally thank SARS for posting this. So people, Some Other Awesome Blog gives to you, Vorkriegsjugend (VKJ)- Wir Sind Die Ratten.
VKJ were credited as being the first punk band out of Germany to influence EVERY other German punk band that came after it. I don't know if that's entirely true, but if it is, I'm definitely not shocked. It's one of the greatest punk releases I've ever heard (and wish so badly I hadn't already emailed Mr. Mark Prindle my favorite albums survey without this included..but I barely heard it yesterday!). It's amazing. Simple chord changes, yet so creative and melodic and so goddamn mother fucking son of a bitchin' CATCHY! You completely ignore the singer's Arnold Schwarzenegger-esque voice and the fact that if you don't speak German, you're not going to understand a word on it (or pronounce the name of the band for that matter). I had first heard their legendary 7" Heute Spaß und morgen Tod, and that EP blew me away. I listened to it constantly, that's why it was even harder not being able to find their first and final full length LP. Especially since I heard such good things about it. Wir Sind Die Ratten has the EP and LP..the LP comes first in case you're wondering. This, in my musical opinion, defines what a real, legendary punk band is all about. I wouldn't make a post on MY blog to go to someone else's blog if it wasn't this essential and important to me musically. If you miss this you're missing out on so much. Or maybe it isn't your cup of tea and maybe you won't like it I don't know.
